Hi community!

This week we're continuing our short and sweet theme with two questions drawn from our now closed QOTW thread.

Please remember we have an all new QOTW thread for your burning questions (and not so burning questions). Be sure to read through our continuously updated post to find out what's been asked, too.

With that in mind, here's our two questions - the first on support skills, the second related to combat.

Can players who want to focus on support skills like healing earn experience while they are healing or can they only get experience toward skill points by getting kills?

Support skills are advanced just like combat skills through killing monsters and completing quests. Players who want to be support types and don't want to fight (much) have the option to complete quests. As you probably expect, not all quests will require fighting! We still highly recommend learning a bit of self-defense, just for your peace of mind.

With the changes being implemented to the combat system, have you now included a cover system or character positions (crouched or prone)?

Good question - we know that cover mechanics that incorporate crouch or prone positions are generally pretty cool, but they are not currently planned as part of combat in Earthrise. Don't worry, you can still hide from your enemies, but you'll have to look for solid cover (like a wall or tree) in order to do so effectively.

Have you been missing your Twitter fix? Me too, so stay tuned on Wednesday for another #er_funfact.

See you next week, and on the forums!

Hmm, makes me wonder if ER is going to have achievement pseudo-quests. Heal 1000 damage, heal 100 different players, etc.

Its too bad about the lack of partial cover and positions. I'm just grateful that they got weaponswitching it.

With lack of proper sniping, I don't see prone useful for ranged characters.

Lack of crouch kinda stings, though.

It will depend on how xp is handled for grouped players.  Have a fighter do the damage and the support character keep him/her alive.  If each gets xp for their skill use then both will level up 100% into the areas they want.

No mention of sharing XP from grouping. I wonder if that's significant?

Better ask in the QOTW thread.

Combat exp rewards from quests without actually fighting. Wonder if there's crafting exp rewards from quests that don't actually require crafting.

So wait, is it going to be like in SWG where by using a particular skill advances that particular skill, or is it that by killing monsters and completing quests you gain skill points which you then spend where you wish, in this case in either support skills, or combat skills. Am I missing something?

Kill monsters, get combat experience points use them on skills and tactics. It is not SWG where you use a skill to rank it up. However they did mention that they are considering gaining experience by doing pvp but for now you can only advance through PvE.

Progression is split between two pools. Killing npc's and completing combat quests gives you combat skill points to spend on combat skills, abilities and tactics. Crafting and completing crafting quests give you crafting points to spend on crafting skills and technologies.

So you can kill something with a melee weapon and invest the points into your rifle skill - its all within the combat pool.

However they did mention that we can now gain experience by doing pvp.

They did? I thought they were just considering it.

Hmm.. I thought it read out that they were testing it out and seeing how it worked out. Okay maybe i did word that out wrong and I will change it to project what has been stated.

I thought they did say it was implemented.  like only eligible to get xp from a person every 24 hours.  I think i remember that being pretty specific... or maybe im crazy

Kole it was from the gamescon coverage. Didn't it say something about gaining skill points by killing players also? I am looking at it right now and I can't trust this translator as it is really putting the sentences together horribly. So, I can't really validate what it is saying so I am just going off what you and others stated in that thread.

What you are thinking is a poll made by Moll. The poll is just there to create feedback and is not a representation of what is actually going on.

the idea of "healing quests" sounds interesting. There's probably a very high possibility for exploitation but still interesting. Considering that combat and support share the same branch of progression I don't find it unreasonable that you've got to do a bit of fighting.

...and I'm sure we can live without crouch and prone without it being gamebreaking Smiley
