Just want to say the game looks very good and I can't wait to play it. The mmo worldreally needs more sandboxes.
Does anyone know what games Masthead has made in the past?

So it is a sandbox style rather than linear?  That would be awesome.  Miss the old UO days when you could pretty much waste days of time just doing your own thing and use your imagination rather than being spoonfed quests and told what to do.

Quest are important to me, but I really do like "wasting my days" and developing my character and friendships without feeling like I falling behind the pace in the game.

Sorry, quests are good.  I guess what I should have said is that so many games spoonfeed us quests as a way to push us from one area to the next.  Makes it feel like the only way the game can progress.  I like quests, they often give you great bits of the story line.

Agreed, it's a question of balancing the accessibility of the questing structure (WoW; LotRO) with the awe and excitement of total freedom (EVE). Let's hope Earthrise gets it right.

Early days; looks great so far...

i think these guys got it right.  WoW is just one area to the next, with hardly any options for more than one story line.  no excitement.  no x factor.

we really need something more than that.  territory control is something that i'm really looking forward to again.  something i've seriously missed since Shadowbane.

While Earthrise is advertised as a sandbox MMORPG, it will feature a rich storyline, gradually revealed to the players through quests. Unlike other traditional MMOs, Earthrise will feature several different quest systems each with its own specific purpose in the game world. The main storyline is only one of them and will use sequential quest arcs instead of many small, unrelated quests. The remaining quest system are still in development and we will reveal them in the future.

ok, let me just say ^^^  right there is what I love and can only hope that it will continue.  Developer input / clarification.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remain active on these forums.  Too many games are ruined by devs never giving input and not paying attention to the community.

Also Rayner thank you very much for the clarification.

I'm pretty sure this is Mastheads first game.

And may I also say 0.o ... holy crap. There have been very very few games in which even a single developer has had a moment to reply on a community forum. Forums take a lot of time to read though then reply too. Thanks for taking that time to chat RaynerApe.

I'm impressed at your screenshots; In alpha and already looking that great. Very interesting indeed.

Giving people a sandbox game, in which we can pvp, build and create etc is fantastic.

In too many games players are just the visitor, just the individual, and just the hero passing by. I really want to play in a gaming world, where the players are the world, without the players, no game; a living and breathing world so to speak, where the interaction between players mean the most - not always the interaction between players and NPCs.

The graphics look sharp, and your feature list looks solid. You have ambition, and I will definitely follow this project closely.

Sounds excellent and I love the view you have about what kind of experience you want your 'players' to have.

Recently, over here in sweden, did we have an 'ARG' that got woven into an online world (Utopia it is called, right?) in addition to other forms of media and made the participants take an active multi platform part in not only experience the world (illusion or not) and story but even further it. This is some what i've been missing from other MMO's and with the ambitions you have mentioned about player controled and regulated elements and the beautiful anarchistic elements I must say my intrest is hocked like it never been about any MMO befor (that and with the genra being postapocalyptic-postcyberpunk).

Excellent. It'll be intresting to follow the development and it's GREAT to se more of Europe get into the game industry with a fresh perspective not chained down by U.S. of Asian styles and ways.

Keep the good work up and take your time. We will be waiting.
