Organizing Enterra for a better tomorrow.

Hello!
Here's our peaceful question of the week with comments straight from our developer team. Enjoy!

This time we're straying away from the path of violence and mayhem to take a close look at what Earthrise can provide to players who decide not to shred blood in the vast island grounds of Enterra:

"We know that Earthrise will feature a deep and sophisticated economic model as well as robust crafting and resource collection.  However, what are some examples other non-combatant roles/skills/activities will Earthrise offer players?"

Players will have some unique opportunities when it comes to playing a peaceful member of the new human society. The recovering humanity slowly rebuilds its work market and special skills and knowledge becomes important in everyone's career - from the simple virtual librarian to the executive administrators of Continoma. Offline professions will be available from various NPCs in the game world and will provide lucrative income given players gather the needed skills and job experience to prove worthy for an important position. Players who decide to concentrate on the fluctuating economic situation will be able to take opportunity of temporary crisis on the good market and will be able to build serious fortune while mercenary soldiers of fortune who are paid on his account wreak havoc at the mining facilities that others come to protect from the mutant infestation. Things can get nasty in the high ranks of the guild aristocracy where players who lead influential guilds will be able to decide the future economic development of the island, and those who serve in their ranks will be able to take an advantage of it. From sharp goods market wits to political savvy or just good ol' worker's ethic, all of them are rewarded in Earthrise.

No matter what your style, looks like a lot to do. Comments below.

I think he just meant an achievement system in the game. Not something I wouldn't mind, but I can live without it.

Anyways, interesting to read! I wonder if I can get a job in the insurance market... Cheesy

Not that this isn't an interesting QOTW but the only non-combat things that were mentioned were playing the market (which presumably includes crafting), guild politics, and offline career advancement.

So am I going out on a limb when I assume we probably won't see social skills or mini-games like fishing?

Kav... would you really want to fish though? Specially from a murky little lake? God, we've seen a little of what has happened to the land critters... you really want to try fishing?
You do?
Well... dont blame me when you get dragged into the water and all your equipment gets waterlogged cause you assumed "Hey, why insure my stuff when I'm just gonna fish?"
I'll just sit back on my compact chair and watch. Cheesy

Some of our over 100 skills are social skills, I'm sure they fit in here someplace. :3 Just as long as the PvP content is really solid I wouldn't mind having some less bloody features in the game as well. Something to do after slaying horde after horde of enemy combatants.

yeah but as far as we know those social skills directly relate to offilne skill advancement.

That said, still really good information here: nothing "new", per se, I mean, a sandbox implies the freedom to do all these things, but good to put that out there directly for those not familiar with sandbox/player economy style games.

I'd be quite surprised if all the social skills affect only your offline advancement. I was thinking some/most would affect merchants and how NPC's interacted with you.

true, was being somewhat narrow, technically I don't think any skills have been announced in the "diplomacy" vein, but it's totally possible that there will be some, true.

TNT Fishing...

Steps:
1. light dynamite
2. toss (preferably in water, and away from yourself)
3. wait
4. collect fish

Seeing how social skills come into gameplay will be interesting enough.

Translation: money for nothing!  Jump through a few hoops at the beginning and get a steady stream of cash to pay for your PvP habits.
